Hidden Nickel Sulphide Story Unveiled, 50cent Stock With $4 target by Analyst

How much would Minago be worth if nickel goes to $40? If Minago reaches its 1 billion pounds in-situ nickel target, the deposit would contain $40 billion dollars worth of nickel in the ground.

During Tesla’s last earnings call in July, CEO Elon Musk pleaded with mining companies to increase their nickel production:

Well, I’d just like to re-emphasize, any mining companies out there, please mine more nickel. Okay. Wherever you are in the world, please mine more nickel and don’t wait for nickel to go back to some high point that you experienced some five years ago, whatever. Go for efficiency, obviously environmentally friendly nickel mining at high volume. Tesla will give you a giant contract for a long period of time, if you mine nickel efficiently and in an environmentally sensitive way. So hopefully this message goes out to all mining companies. Please get nickel.

So How to Profit from this EV Nickel Revolution?

Just this week I heard through the grapevine that a mining company backed by billionaire Eric Sprott and Sprott Capital has acquired a major-league Class 1 nickel deposit in Canada called Minago.

Minago is part of Canada’s Thompson Nickel Belt (TNB), which is recognized as the fifth largest nickel-bearing belt in the world. It has had over 5 billion pounds of Class 1 nickel production since 1958. Current annual production by Vale S.A. in the TNB is 33 million pounds.

The Minago project spans 197 square km. A high voltage (230 kV) transmission line runs directly beside Highway 6, which transects the property. This means a low incremental infrastructure cost.

How Big is Minago?

The Minago Project contains a sulphide nickel deposit known as the Nose Deposit. The Nose Deposit advanced to the permit stage as an open pit mine operation in the last nickel bull cycle, which was 10 years ago. The deposit went through 68,092 meters of drilling. In 2009 it received an NI43-101 compliant resource calculation from the independent Wardrop Engineering, as tabulated below:

Inferred0.25%14,5850.53170.4

That’s a total of 790 million pounds of nickel in the ground, worth $6.5 billion dollars at today’s nickel price of $8.22/lb.

Metallurgical test work conducted with Minago rocks in 2008 by SGS Lakefield  achieved a nickel concentrate that contains 22.27% Ni with a nickel recovery rate of 77.2%.

Mineralogical work on the Nose Deposit’s nickel sulphides reveals prevalence of violarite (FeNi2S4) and also abundance of  millerite (NiS). These types of nickel sulphides result in a high nickel tenor, that is to say, a high concentration of nickel in sulphides which explains the high metallurgical recovery and high concentrate grade at the Minago Project.

If Grade is King, Recovery is the Ace of Spades,

Elon urges nickel be mined efficiently and in an environmentally sensitive way

I can see Elon Musk ruling out purchasing (1) Class 2 nickel produced from laterite deposits (due to pollution) and (2) Class 1 nickel produced from low grade sulphide deposits with low metallurgical recovery (due to inefficiency).

Typically in mining and especially in nickel sulphide mining, higher grade ore tends to achieve higher nickel recovery rates. High grades and recoveries have a compounding effect in reducing mine operating and energy costs.

Minago’s Upside:

How big could Minago get? According Minago’s geologist, the project can potentially grow past the benchmark 1 billion pounds of instu nickel. This would start with the Nose Deposit at 790 million pounds and then add the North limb (442 million pounds potential), the South Target (83 million pounds potential), the O Limb, and the Nose West Extension. All prospects have received nickel drill intercepts.

So who owns Minago?

The company that bought Minago is Silver Elephant Mining Corp (TSX: ELEF, OTC: SILEF, www.silverelef.com), which calls itself a premier mining and exploration company of energy metals. It is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company is amassing large quantities of nickel, silver, and vanadium metal resources in the ground.

In the Peer Comp slide of the company’s presentation, Minago having a higher nickel grade and higher recoveries, compares favorably with most other pre-production nickel deposits.

In recent news release, The company chairman John Lee praised Silver Elephant’s VP Canadian Operations Dan Oosterman (who started his career at Falconbridge and INCO, and helped drill the T3 deposit in Thompson not far from Minago) as being “ideally suited to unveil Minago to the market and explore the project to its full potential.”

Lee further stated in an interview that Elephant’s value proposition is to “fill the insatiable and eruptive Class 1 nickel demand from EVs by expanding the nickel sulphide resource at Minago to district scale and eventually bringing the Minago project to production with industry partners.”

The industry partners can be Tesla, or one of several  emerging lithium battery and EV manufacturers: Panasonic, Porsche, Volkswagen to name a few. ,

Could Nickel Melt Up? It Not Only Could, but It Inevitably Will

Technically, the nickel price has a confirmed multi-year breakout at $8/lb ($17,000/t) and is on its way to $15/lb ($30,000/t), which is close to a doubling in price.

How high could nickel go? Considering current stagnant nickel-mine production and lack of nickel substitute in batteries till least 2030, your guess is as good as anyone’s. Before you ridicule nickel going back to the prior all-time high of $20/lb ($50,000/t) set in 2007, recall that hedge fund speculators hoarded cobalt in 2017. That resulted in cobalt’s 4-fold price increase from $10 to $45+ in 18 months.

How much would Minago be worth if nickel goes to $40? If Minago reaches its 1 billion pounds in-situ nickel target, the deposit would contain $40 billion dollars worth of nickel in the ground.

Technically, Twitter Northstar put a $4 target on the stock

Perhaps it is time to own a piece of Elephant (TSX: ELEF, OTC: SILEF, www.silverelef.com) before it’s too late.
